We are coming off a great 2013 for the DARS. But we do face a few challenges and ongoing issues.
The largest of these is access to flying sites. We currently have two that are large enough for the club to use regularly. Our model site in Frisco has been active for at least six years now (Thank You, Tim Sapp! For finding and activating this wonderful location.) And our new Gunter site is available for High Power use, for Levels -1 and-2 certification. However, the usefulness of the Frisco site is going to diminish rapidly, there are houses going up to the east of our park's tree-line, which will limit flying sizes and altitudes. And when the dirt part of Panther Creek is finally paved, our site will be in practice limited to "D" size motors or smaller. And as you know our current altitude limit at Gunter is about 5,000ft. So replacements or additional sites are still a big priority.Organic growth is our other big issue. As we get bigger, we stress all of our resources more. The meeting rooms required need to be bigger, and the crowds at our events tend to get larger. This means that we are ALWAYS in need of volunteers to help keep things running. Volunteer for something you like to do, and you may get to do it for the club a lot!
