Friday January 22, 2010 DARS will host a Class 1 model rocket launch this coming
Saturday (23 Jan 2010)
From Mike McFadden: One of my passions in life is high power rocketry. On September 6, 2009 I will be using my passion for rocketry to dedicate a flight in memory of my mother –Barbara McFadden- who passed away last November after battling Parkinson’s for almost 20 years. I am seeking donations to sponsor this flight. 100% of all donations will be sent to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. http://www.michaeljfox.org/
The
rocket: “Barbara Jean”
This
is a kit offered by Wildman Rocketry called the
Wildman Dual Deploy. It is a 3” diameter, 90.75
inches in length and will weigh over 12 lbs on the
pad. This will be launched on an Animal Motor Works
L1300 Blue Baboon motor. The motor was generously
donated by Paul from AMW for this flight. The expected
altitude will be about 10,400’, almost 2 miles.
Other necessary components for this flight include a
MAWD altimeter from Perfectflite, a Parrot altimeter
from Featherweight Altimeters, and a Sky Angle
parachute also from Wildman Rocketry.

The
event: Airfest 2009
Airfest
is a 4 day rocket launch sponsored by the KloudBusters
Rocketry Club of Argonia Kansas.
These are a great group of people that put on a
premier event over the Labor Day weekend. I am
anticipating launching this rocket on Sunday,
September 6.
How
to donate: Cash, check, or credit card.
The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research is providing support, information, and research about this terrible affliction. From Wikipedia: Parkinson’s Disease is a chronic and progressive degenerative disease of the brain that impairs motor control, speech, and other functions. The disease is named after English physician James Parkinson, who gave a detailed description of it in an 1817 work titled, "An Essay on the Shaking Palsy".Parkinson's disease belongs to a group of conditions called movement disorders. It is characterized by muscle rigidity, resting tremor, slowing of movement and, in extreme cases, nearly complete loss of movement. Secondary symptoms may include high level cognitive dysfunction, subtle language problems, and depression. Sunday July 19, 2009
